                               Permanent senior career position at IS, the largest internet service provider in South Africa (Bryanston). A large size company (1000-5000 employees).

 

                               Responsibilities and Accomplishments

                               - Maintaining the international MPLS backbone and growing the large-scale Data Centers.

                               - Designing network architectures around mass customer base and internal services requirements.

                               - Documenting high and low level designs, implementation and testing, training and post-deployment support.

                               - Highest point of escalation for all other technical teams.

                               - NMS CE architecture: Redesigned MPLS NMS extranet to cater for improve scalability and security.

                               - 10GbE Migration: Migrate Data Centers to 10GbE infrastructure and equipment.

                               - Parklands Data Center 3 and 4: Green field Nexus data center deployment.

                               Permanent senior position (below 1 year) position at BCX, the largest managed services provider in South Africa (Midrand). A large size company (1000-5000 employees).

 

                               Responsibilities and Accomplishments

                               - Maintaining, upgrading, designing and implementing new solutions on BCX's corporate MPLS infrastructure that services all divisions and all clients.

                               - Areas of responsibility include MPLS backbone, Data-Centre connectivity, ADSL, 3G networks and end-to-end QOS redesign.

                               - Other responsibilities include network governance, monitoring and maintaining uptime.

                               - Highest point of escalation for all other technical teams.

                               - Responsible for training and guidance of all 2nd/3rd line engineers.

                               - Involved or responsible for most of the complex technical client designs.

 

                               Projects

                               - Quality of Service design: Redesigned end-to-end QOS model on MPLS network.

                               - Backbone Redundancy: Implemented redundant GSRs and ATM links.

                               - Data Center Migration: Migrated data center client to redundant Cisco 6500s.

                               - Network Services Layer: Separated Cisco 6500 with IPSEC Spa and FWSM functions.

                               - Out-of-Band Network: Designed and build a custom out-of-band network.

                               - Cisco Gold Partner: Presented motivation for contract recertification.

                               - Supporting and troubleshooting firewall security solutions.

                               - 3rd Tier escalation for all other technical teams in the Global Service Centre.

                               - Prioritizing/Solving numerous issues of varying severity, effectively managing the expectations of service managed customers within accepted service levels.

                               - Responsible for the technical interview of all senior recruits.

                               = Employee of the month: 3 consecutive months.

                               = Moved to senior network support team after 8 months.
